The Grape Stomp (sponsored by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance) is only half of the fun because the other half of the fun can be found a stone’s throw away on Main Street, known as the Gold Rush Street Faire.

You get to wander in and out of Murphys Community Park throughout the day to watch the various stomping heats, enjoy the Street Fair and taste your way through as many wineries as you can get to in a day.

And even if your team doesn’t stomp your way to the finals, you could take home the prize for best costume (this is where the serious competitors come in!). Teams of two-a Swabber and a Stomper-have exactly three minutes to try and stomp the most juice out of barrel of grapes for a chance to advance to the finals and win fabulous prizes.

The event is held in conjunction with a Gold Rush Street Faire for a full day of family-fun and entertainment. Visitors can stomp local muscadines for the Grape Stomping Contest, compete in the annual Lucy Look-Alike Contest and enjoy a fun-filled day under the oaks at Charleston’s only vineyard and winery.Every October people descend upon the historic gold rush town and up-and-coming wine destination of Murphys, CA to channel their inner Lucy and Ethel in a true, down and dirty grape stomp competition. The highlight of the Grape Stomping Festival is the Lucy Look-A-Like Contest, where "I Love Lucy" Fans will get their chance to don their best Lucy costume and reenact the famous 1956 episode of "I Love Lucy" when Lucy takes a job in a vineyard and stomps grapes. If you want to stomp in a contest it's $20 per stomping pair (we can pair you, if needed). If you want to be guaranteed a spot, get your individual tickets ($40 for entrance, a tasting, and t-shirt or $30 for entrance and shirt). This is our most popular festival so we know time slots will sell out quickly.
